About the Asian American Coalition of Chicago
The Asian American Coalition of Chicago (AACC) is an organization whose mission is to unite the Asian Americans into a significant force for strengthening the Asian American Community in the United States, understanding the Asian cultural values, and recognizing the importance of Asian Americans to the American democracy and economy.
The AACC mission is accomplished through:
- Organizing the Asian American Coalition of Chicago’s Annual Lunar New Year Celebration
- Hosting an Annual Asian American Festival at Daley Center Plaza to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
- Conducting AACC forums and conferences
- Providing opportunity for all Asian of all ethnic backgrounds and political parties to work together for the well-being of Asian Americans and all Americans.
An event held on this grand of a scale only once a year, the Asian American Coalition of Chicago’s Lunar New Year Celebration is largest celebration of its type in the Midwest. Every year a different Asian community takes turn playing host. This year the Thai American community will host this event. The theme is “It’s Time........”
Founded in 1983, the Coalition celebrates approximately 16 different cultures. Over the years, the Coalition has included representatives of the Bangladeshi, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Malaysian, Nepalese, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Thai and Vietnamese communities.
